Grizzlies Lose Close Game to Evansville

Sauget, IL - Evansville had six walks come around to score in an 8-7 victory over Gateway on Friday night.

The first inning saw seven of the 15 runs in the game scored. Evansville scored three in the inning highlighted by a two-RBI single from Andy Dejesus.

Gateway erased that three run lead to take a lead of their own in the bottom of the first. Dustin Woodcock drove in two runs with a single and later came around to score in the inning to make it 4-3 Grizzlies.

Jay Prather added an RBI double in the third inning to give Gateway a 5-3 lead.

Jeffrey Baez blasted a two-run homer in the top of the fifth and the Otters scored three in the inning to give Evansville a 6-5 lead. Baez has homered in four straight games.

Evansville scored two more in the top of the sixth with a two-RBI double from Riley Krane, who went three for four with two doubles, giving the Otters an 8-5 lead.

Chase Vallot hit his tenth home run of the year in the bottom of the sixth, a two-run shot, to pull Gateway within one at 8-7.

Logan Sawyer shut the door in the ninth for Evansville to hand the Grizzlies their sixth straight loss.

Gateway and Evansville will play game two of the series at 6:45 CT on Saturday.
