Tribe's Four Late Runs Not Enough Versus Chiefs
June 10, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indians scored twice in both the sixth and seventh innings to come within a run of Syracuse, but fell short, 5-4, at Victory Field on Friday night.
Adam Frazier boosted his batting average to .333 with a 3-for-5 effort - good for second in the league.
Chad Kuhl (5-2) matched his season high with four earned runs allowed in 5.1 innings. The team had won three straight starts with Kuhl on the hill prior to tonight. The Chiefs' AJ Cole (5-2) struck out eight in six innings while allowing just two earned runs to receive the win.
The Chiefs (30-29) got to Kuhl in the opening frame, plating two runs on a homer to right by Matt Skole with one on and two out.
The visitors added on in the fifth inning thanks to a pair of doubles from the Nationals' No. 2 prospect Trea Turner and Brian Goodwin.
Kuhl gave way to Kelvin Marte in the sixth inning. Jason Martinson homered to open the frame and made it 4-0 before two more came aboard against Kuhl to spell the end of his day.
The Indians (31-30) finally struck back in the sixth. Frazier singled to open the frame as Danny Ortiz and Jacob Stallings both notched RBIs.
The Tribe again cut into the deficit with two more runs in the seventh after Syracuse plated one in the top half of the frame. Moroff and Frazier both tallied their third hits with two outs before Willy Garcia singled to shallow right to score Frazier and make the score 5-4.
The teams resume play Saturday at 7:05 p.m. back at Victory Field. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
