Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
RHP Jake Thompson tossed seven shutout innings as the Lehigh Valley Cheesesteaks (33-28) blanked the Durham Bulls (28-35) by a score of 4-0 on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Thompson (5-5) allowed six hits while walking one and fanning five in his seven innings of work. RHP Edubray Ramos (2.0 IP, 2 K) got the final six outs to notch his second save of the year.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth as Bulls starter Blake Snell and Thompson traded zeroes.
In the afore-mentioned bottom of the fourth, Darin Ruf (3-3, 2B, 3B, RBI, 2 R) and Cam Perkins (2-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI, R) came through with back-to-back doubles before Perkins later scored on Emmanuel Burriss' RBI single to give Lehigh Valley a 2-0 lead.
The Cheesesteaks tacked on a run in the sixth to grab a 3-0 lead as Taylor Featherston reached with a one-out single, advanced to second on an error charged to Durham 1B Jake Goebbert, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Ruf's RBI single.
All three runs were charged to Snell (3-5) who gave up the three runs on seven hits to go along with a walk and 13 strikeouts in 5.2 IP.
Ruf led off the bottom of the eighth with a triple to center before scoring on Perkins' RBI double to give the Cheesesteaks a 4-0 lead.
The triple was Ruf's first since October 1, 2012 with the Phillies.
The series continues on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. as RHP Ben Lively (2-0, 2.37) will be on the bump for Lehigh Valley against Durham RHP Jaime Schultz (5-2, 2.57).
