Clippers and Indians Split Doubleheader
June 10, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release
After pummeling the Indians 11-0 in game one of the doubleheader on Thursday night at Huntington Park, Indianapolis (31-29) bounced back and beat Columbus (35-26) 6-1 in game two in front of 7,655 fans.
In game one, Jesus Aguilar continued his tremendous hitting in this series and his positive trend of putting the Clippers on the board first, as his RBI single scoring Erik Gonzalez from second base put Columbus up 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
The Clippers offense made the game out of hand the next inning, as they plated six runs on eight hits, making it 7-0 and knocking Indians starter Wilfredo Boscan (3-5) out of the game.
Boscan was charged for seven earned runs on 10 hits and he struck out one batter.
Columbus added three more runs in the third frame and one in the sixth, putting the game out of hand.
Mike Clevinger (6-0), who started for Columbus, extended his flawless record in a game that was only his to lose.
The right-handed ace went six innings of scoreless baseball, allowing three hits and punching out eight.
Game two went the complete opposite way for the Clippers, as Gift Ngoepe's three-run home run to the left field bleachers, his second long ball of the year, put the Tribe up 3-0 after two innings.
The Indians plated two more in the next inning to extend the lead to five.
The Clippers got on the board in the fourth frame thanks to a Guillermo Quiroz RBI single to left field, but they weren't able to manufacture any more offense the rest of the way.
Righty Will Roberts (5-3) suffered the loss for Columbus, working four and 2/3 innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits. He walked four and fanned one.
Fellow right-hander Frank Duncan (2-2) earned his second win of the campaign for the Tribe, tossing six innings, giving up an earned run on four hits while walking one and striking out one.
Columbus will exchange dance partners tomorrow after finishing with a 3-2 record against Indianapolis in their five game series as they will welcome Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to central Ohio for the first time in 2016. Southpaw Ryan Merritt (4-4, 2.64 ERA) will duel against righty Luis Cessa (0-1, 4.18 ERA) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
Tomorrow is another Party-at-the-Park! Every Friday and Saturday home game will feature Party-At-The-Park with live music in the right field plaza as soon as the gates open up to the first pitch. Fridays feature food and beverage specials. There are no food and drink specials for Party-At-The-Park events held on Saturdays. The live bands will play from 5:40-7:00 p.m. Check clippersbaseball.com for more information on the bands.
