Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY - The Indianapolis Indians cashed in on an errant pickoff throw that extended the fourth inning with a two-run homer from Ka'ai Tom and four Tribe hurlers combined for 9.0 scoreless innings in a 3-0 shutout of the Louisville Bats Sunday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field.
Hunter Greene caught Bligh Madriss leaning at first base with two outs in the fourth but was unable to convert the final out of the inning when he uncorked a wild throw to Brantley Bell at first base.
With the inning remaining alive, Tom fouled off a pitch and took a ball before driving Greene's offering over the right-field fence for two unearned runs.
John Nogowski rounded out the three-run inning with a sacrifice fly earlier in the frame. His RBI proved to be the game-winner as Louisville was held off the scoreboard through 9.0 innings.
Indianapolis starter Max Kranick was lights out with just two hits and eight strikeouts over 6.0 scoreless frames. Three Tribe relievers followed for the shutout, with Shea Spitzbarth closing the door in the ninth for his second Triple-A save in 2021.
Mike Freeman finished the loss with two of Louisville's five total hits. Greene took the loss with three runs (one earned) in 4.0 innings of work.
The Bats will now enjoy a day off Monday before beginning a six-game series in Memphis on Tuesday. LHP Reiver Sanmartin (7-2, 3.61) gets the start in the series opener at 7:45 p.m. at AutoZone Park.
