Syracuse Mets News Release
Buffalo, NY - Khalil Lee's two home runs led the Syracuse Mets to a 10-2 win over the Buffalo Bisons in Sunday's series finale at Sahlen Field. Overall, Syracuse blasted four home runs in the victory as Wilfredo Tovar and Cheslor Cuthbert also contributed to the total.
Syracuse (44-67-1) struck first with Lee's first home run, a two-out solo shot in the top of the first inning to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead.
The Mets added to their advantage in the top of the fourth. Lee led off the inning with his second home run, another solo homer, to give Syracuse a 2-0 advantage. After José Peraza and Travis Blankenhorn were retired, Chance Sisco worked a two-out walk. Tovar then launched a two-run homer to left field to increase the lead to 4-0.
Buffalo (68-43) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Otto Lopez led off the frame reaching second base on a two-base throwing error by Syracuse shortstop Drew Jackson. Cavan Biggio then grounded out as Lopez moved to third base. Kevin Smith followed with an RBI single to make it 4-1 with Syracuse still in front. After Cullen Large walked, Tomas Nido recorded a throwing error on a pickoff attempt at second base, allowing Smith to move to third. Later in the at-bat, Christian Colón hit into an RBI groundout, scoring Smith to bring the Bisons within two, 4-2 Mets.
Syracuse put together a big two-out rally in the top of the seventh. With two outs and nobody on base, Jackson worked a walk. With Mark Payton at the plate, Jackson stole second base. Later in the at-bat, Payton delivered with an RBI single to increase the Mets lead to 5-2. Payton moved to second base on a throw home that did not get Jackson. Nido followed with an RBI single of his own to bring home Payton and make it a 6-2 Syracuse advantage. Lee then singled for his third hit of the night, and Peraza kept the Mets rolling with a one-run single to stretch the lead to five, 7-2. Travis Blankenhorn capped off the four-run inning with a one-run single to score Lee and make it 8-2 Mets.
Syracuse kept scoring in the top of the eighth. Tovar led off the frame with a single, and Cuthbert followed with his 14th home run of the season, a two-run blast to put the Mets up eight runs, 10-2.
After a 12-game road trip, the Mets return home to NBT Bank Stadium for a six-game series against the Worcester Red Sox. The action begins in Syracuse on Tuesday night for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
