Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians scored five runs in the second inning on their way to a 7-2 defeat of Toledo on Wednesday at Victory Field.
Starter Chad Kuhl (1-0) earned his first win after allowing two hits over five shutout innings. He struck out five and walked just one. Trey Haley notched his third save after entering in the eighth.
Major League rehabbers Jung Ho Kang and Jared Hughes each performed well, with Kang's glove on display with a diving stop and Hughes working a scoreless sixth.
Toledo (6-4) starter Daniel Norris (0-1) received the loss for surrendering five runs in 4.0 innings.
The Indians (6-5) scored five runs in the second inning and never looked back. Five hits and a walk were highlighted by a two-run single from Jacob Stallings and a bases-clearing double by Max Moroff that rattled around the left field corner.
Kuhl faced the minimum in three of his five frames.
The Mud Hens showed signs of stirring in the eighth, when they plated two runs to make the score 5-3, but Jason Rogers and Josh Bell homered back-to-back in the stanza's bottom half to erase the progress and make the score 7-2 where it remained.
It was the first time the Tribe hit consecutive home runs since Jared Goedert and Brett Carroll went back-to-back on June 28, 2013.
