(Rochester, NY) - Sam Travis' two-run double spoiled a pitcher's duel between the Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings, guiding the PawSox to their seventh win in a row, by a score of 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Frontier Field.
Pitchers Robby Scott, Jorge Marban and Wesley Wright combined on a four-hit shutout for Pawtucket (9-5).
Scott, making a spot start for William Cuevas who was called up to Boston, tossed 4.1 innings, the longest outing of his professional career. He struck out a career-high five, while allowing two hits and one walk.
Jorge Marban (1-0) pitched 2.2 innings of relief, stranding five runners on base. The Red Wings' (4-9) best opportunity came in the seventh inning when they loaded the bases with two outs, but Marban got Rochester secondbaseman James Beresford to line out to second base.
Wesley Wright tossed 2.0 innings to close out the game, allowing only one baserunner for his second save of the season. He was assisted by Justin Maxwell who made a sensational diving grab to end the eighth inning.
Rochester starter Alex Meyer (1-1) was also in control on the mound, striking out seven and keeping the game scoreless into the sixth.
But after Deven Marrero and Rusney Castillo led off the sixth with singles, Travis doubled to left field to drive them both in. Travis was thrown out at third base on the play but the only offensive damage of the game was done.
Travis has 12 RBI this season, tied for the most in the International League. He is batting .452 (14-for-31) on the current road trip.
The PawSox are 7-0 on their opening trip that has taken them to three different intradivision foes. Pawtucket has outscored its opposition 45-17 over that stretch.
The PawSox will go for the perfect eight-game road trip in Rochester tomorrow morning at 11:05 a.m. Pawtucket lefthander Brian Johnson (1-1, 2.89) is scheduled to make his third start of the season against Red Wings righthander Jose Berrios (1-0, 1.80). Radio coverage begins on WHJJ and throughout the PawSox radio network at 10:35 a.m.
The PawSox will return to McCoy Stadium on Friday for the first contest of a five-game homestand, beginning with a three-game series against Lehigh Valley.
