Bats Take Series against Clippers, 16-5

LOUISVILLE,Ky. - On the first Education Day of the season, the Louisville Bats took the series from the Columbus Clippers with a 16-5 win this afternoon. The Bats poured in 10 runs in the fifth inning for the first time since 2007 and they set a new club with 20 hits in a game.

The Bats were first to get on the board in the bottom of the second when 2B Carlos Triunfel scored on C Chris Berset's single to put Louisville up 1-0.

The Clippers were able to break through with their first hit of the afternoon in the third inning with a base hit up the middle by 2B Michael Martinez. C Guillermo Qurioz advanced to second, but a double by SS Erik Gonzalez brought in Qurioz. The Clippers continued their rally in the third, as a single by LF Joey Butler brought in Martinez and Gonzalez to make the score 3-1. Columbus scored two more runs in the inning making the score 5-1.

Louisville sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead for good. The Bats had eight in a row that reached base and scored. A three run double from DH Jermaine Curtis highlighted the inning. All told the Bats lead 11-5 after the damage was done.

After the Bats scored a run in the seventh they batted around again in the eighth inning, scoring four runs for a 16-5.

RHP Tim Adleman (1-0, 7.20) brought home the win his first career victory at the Triple-A level. Adleman pitched five innings, had seven hits, five runs all earned, and five strikeouts. With the loss Columbus LHP Tom Gorelanny ( 0-1,11.25) pitched to four batters and had four hits and four runs all earned.

Louisville will be back in action Thursday night as they will take on the Indianapolis Indians. Reds' RHP Homer Bailey (NR) will be on a Major League rehab assignment. He will be opposed by RHP Tyler Glasnow (0-1,1.80). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
