Five Run Inning Propels Indy over Toledo

Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Mud Hens dropped the Wednesday afternoon series finale to the Indians by a score of 7-2 at Indy. Toledo boasts a record of 6-4 on the season, and holds onto first place in the IL West.

Trailing 5-0 for a majority of the game, the Mud Hens began a rally in the eighth inning with hits from C Miguel Gonzalez, CF Wynton Bernard, and SS Dixon Machado. With bases loaded, 2B Argenis Diaz grounded into a double play, scoring Gonzalez. LF Chad Huffman continued his hot streak with a ground ball double to left field, allowing Bernard to come home. The rally fell short, however, as the Indians immediately answered back with back-to-back insurance home runs against Jose Valdez.

3B Casey McGehee, now batting a .316, collected three of Toledo's eight hits on Wednesday afternoon.

RHP Daniel Norris (4 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 6 SO) had a shaky first start for the Mud Hens, going four innings and allowing five earned runs. Norris was hit with a five-run second inning from the Indians, allowing a walk and five hits. However, Norris allowed only one hit following the second inning and ended his day with a total of six punchouts.

Warwick Saupold (2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO) took over in relief of Norris in the fifth inning and provided two scoreless innings for Toledo. Also pitching in relief for the Hens was righty Michael Crotta, who has allowed only one base runner thus far this season.

Toledo continues their road trip tomorrow as the team travels to Columbus to take on the Clippers for a 6:35 p.m. start time.
