Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

BOUNCING BACK: The SWB RailRiders received a strong performance by their pitching staff and a big night at the plate for Aaron Judge as they shut out the Buffalo Bisons, 7-0.

SLAMMING THE GAVEL: Judge drove in four runs including an impressive three-run homer to left. Through 11 games played, he has slashed .333/.360/.556/.916 by going 15-for-45 with six extra-base hits. He ranks among the IL's best in total bases (4th, 25) and hits (T-5th). He has been particularly effective against right-handed pitchers (11-for-29, 4XBH, .379/.424/.586/1.010). Judge has hit second in all of his games played thus far, something he did in just 10 of his 61 games played at Triple-A a season ago. Most of his SWB time last year came in the four (21 games) or five-hole (27 games). However, he mostly hit second at Double-A in 2015 (30 games) and at both levels his best performances came in the two hole. At Double-A last year he slashed .310/.370/.579/.949 batting second. At Triple-A, the numbers stood .333/.413/.385/.798. Judge also boasts a pair of outfield assists. Only Buffalo's Junior Lake (4) has more in IL play entering tonight.

FOUR SCORE AND TWO SWINGS AGO: Judge's four RBIs fell one shy of his career-high mark of five set on July 1, 2014. With Advanced-A Tampa, he went 2-for-3 in a 14-2 win at Lakeland with a double, a homer, two walks and a bruise.

TIME TO MAKE THE DONUTS: Tyler Cloyd (1-0) and Conor Mullee combined on the five-hit shutout. Cloyd fired 6.2 scoreless innings and became the first 2016 RailRider to pitch into the seventh inning. He retired 13 in a row before Andy Burns reached on an infield single with one out in the sixth inning. Mullee, who had Tommy John three times, faced the minimum over his 2.1 innings, whiffing three. He also stranded an inherited runner. Over his five career Triple-A outings, he has tossed 9.2 scoreless innings of three-hit ball. During that time he has struck out 15 and walked none. The RailRiders stand tied with the G-Braves for the league lead in shutouts at three. SWB's 2.78 ERA ranks fourth in the circuit and its 9.34 K/9 IP rate trails only Durham (10.15). The league average is 8.23. The franchise last led the league in donut deliveries in 2011 with 13.

TRIPLE THREAT: Catcher Gary Sanchez struck a fifth-inning triple that was lost in the twilight heavens by center fielder Dalton Pompey. It made for his third career three-baser and his first since Aug. 19, 2012 while with Advanced-A Tampa at Daytona. Over his last four games played, he has gone 1-for-16. In his nine games played on the season he has gone 6-for-36 (.167/.231/.389/.620).

LET'S GET HIM ON: Leadoff man Ben Gamel reached base three times with two hits and one walk. He notched his team-best fourth steal and scored twice. Only Gwinnett's Emilio Bonifacio (5) has more steals in the IL.

R&R: Rob Refsnyder reached on an error and scored a run, but went 0-for-4 as his hitting streak stalled at eight games.

GETTING DEFENSIVE: The RailRiders kept their league-low error total at a slim three with a ninth clean sheet defensively. The club assembled a seven-game error-free stretch from April 8-15 and owns a .993 fielding percentage that trails only Gwinnett (.994). Last year's unit finished fifth in the league with a .982 fielding percentage. The franchise last led the league in fielding percentage at .983 when it did not have a home stadium en route to a division title in 2012.

GIDDY UP: The RailRiders turned their 14th double play of the season with a 3-6-2 twinkilling in the eighth inning. Only Gwinnett (18) has turned two more in the IL this season. SWB has not led the league in double plays turned since the 2005 Red Barons posted 175.
