LeBlanc Dominates in 8-1 Herd Win
April 20, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
Wade LeBlanc fired seven innings of four-hit baseball and Domonic Brown homered twice as the Bisons rebounded nicely Wednesday night to defeat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 8-1, from PNC Field in Moosic, PA. Alexi Casilla added four hits and two RBI as the club set a new season-high with 16 hits in the victory.
As good as the offense was in making Tuesday's 7-0 loss to the RailRiders a distant memory, the tone for Wednesday's win was set on the mound. LeBlanc retired nine of the first 10 batter he faced. He needed just seven pitches to retire Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the first inning, including the first of two strikeouts of Yankees' prospect, Aaron Judge.
LeBlanc collected two more punchouts in the fifth and sixth innings and used a doubleplay to erase his lone walk of the night in seventh. The southpaw went on to set down nine of the final batters he faced and struck out eight overall in seven innings of work.
The Bisons' offense, meanwhile, got going the second time they got a look at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Anthony Swarzak. Switching to an aggressive approach, Brown doubled on the second pitch of the fourth inning and then scored on Swarzak's very next delivery, a first-pitch RBI-single by Jesus Montero.
Buffalo then wasted little time in the fifth to add to their 2-1 lead. David Adams led off the frame with a single and was doubled over to third base by Andy Burns. Brown then deposited a 2-0 pitch from Swarzak over the wall in right-centerfield for the 5-1 advantage.
The Bisons made it 7-1 in the seventh on RBI hits from Casilla and Matt Dominguez, who picked up his fourth consecutive multi-hit performance. Brown gave the Bisons their first multi-homer game of the year with a no-doubter to right in the eighth inning.
Brown finished the game 3-5 with three runs scored and five RBI.
Dustin Antolin and Ben Rowen closed out the gem with an inning of shutout relief each. A night after the Bisons had just five singles in defeat, Buffalo held the RailRiders to just five singles themselves.
BISONS NOTES:
The game wasn't all good news for the Bisons as OF Dalton Pompey left the game in the bottom of the fourth inning...Matt Dominguez is 10 for his last 16 at the plate with a .625 average over the last four games...Wade LeBlanc now leads the Bisons with a 1.93 ERA...Both Jesus Montero and Domonic Brown have 10 RBI to share in the team lead.
