
Trenton Hands Erie Eighth Straight Loss

The SeaWolves dropped their eighth consecutive game on Wednesday night at Waterfront Park, 7-6 to the Trenton Thunder. The âWolves are now a game under .500 for the first time since May 4.
The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the first inning against Trenton starter D.J. Mitchell when Wilkin Ramirez snapped a four-game hitless streak connecting on his 11th home run for a 1-0 Erie lead.
Erie starter Jon Kibler had a rough go of it in the bottom of the second. Marcos Vechionacci and Edwar Gonzalez each singled and Vechionacci scored on a Luis Nunez double, tying the game at 1-1. With runners on second and third, Justin Snyder walked to load the bases. Justin Christian then hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Gonzalez for a 2-1 Trenton lead. Austin Krum singled home Nunez for a 3-1 lead and Brandon Laird singled home Snyder for a 4-1 lead.
Trenton would take a 5-1 lead in the fifth. Laird tripled to lead off the inning and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Daniel Brewer to right.
Erie closed the gap to 5-2 when Ramirez connected on his second solo home run of the game in the sixth with one out. The home run was his 12th.
Trailing by three in the eighth, the âWolves would rally. Shawn Roof walked with one out and Ramirez became the first SeaWolf this season to connect on three home runs as he took reliever Noel Castillo to straight away center making it a one-run game at 5-4. Cesar Nicolas followed with a double to center, his third hit of the game. With two outs, Josh Burrus singled home Nicolas, tying the game at 5-5.
The âWolves then regained the lead in the top of the ninth, Cale Iorg, who earlier in the game snapped an 0-for-23 skid at the plate, singled to right. Justin Henry then laid down a sacrifice bunt and on a throwing error, both runners reached safely putting runners on the corners for Andy Dirks. Dirks broke an 0-for-20 streak at the plate with an RBI single, scoring Iorg for a 6-5 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, the âWolves handed the ball to Luis Marte who was in search of his seventh save of the season. Marte struck out Christian for the first out but gave up a single to Krum putting the tying run on first. He then struck out Romine for the second out bringing Laird to the plate. Laird completed the cycle hitting a two-out, two-run home run to win the game for Trenton. The runs were the first allowed by Marte since April 15.
Erie is now 2-12 in at Waterfront Park since 2008 and are 0-7 in Trenton this season.
The âWolves look to avoid their second consecutive series sweep on Thursday night in Trenton...7:05 First Pitch. Righty Brooks Brown (3-2, 4.55 ERA) takes the mound for the âWolves against RHP Hector Noesi (0-0, 7.50 ERA).
