Akron RubberDucks News Release

Curve in the Road... The Altoona Curve continued their recent dominance of the Aeros with a 5-3 victory in game two of this four-game series Tuesday night at Canal Park. The Curve offense responded to every single Akron rally on the night and began the back-and-forth with two runs in the third. Second baseman Cristo Arnal was heads up on the base paths in the bottom of that frame to make it 2-1 as he scored on an eventual balk by Altoona lefty Rudy Owens (4-2). The closest the Aeros came all night to taking the lead was when the team loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the eighth. Curve reliever Ronald Uviedo then forced three straight outs in a row, only permitting one run to score before closer Danny Moskos earned the save with a perfect ninth. Akron's lefty starter Eric Berger (1-3) took the loss by allowing nine hits and five runs in five innings.

Triple Trouble... Akron finished with just three runs and three hits Tuesday and the three different batters to record a base knock all doing very well recently. Third baseman Jared Goedert celebrated his 25th birthday with a double, extending his hitting streak to 14 straight games, the longest active mark in the Eastern League. A triple by left fielder John Drennen also improved his hit streak to eight in a row while catcher Damaso Espino increased his batting average to .356 on the year with a single. These three batters have combined to hit .419 (36-86) with 12 runs scored and six RBI in the last 10 team games for the Aeros.

I'm All Wright... It has been a pleasant surprise to see right-hander Steven Wright leading the Akron bullpen yet again this year. The 25-year-old delivered two scoreless frames Tuesday against the Curve for his fifth straight shutout appearance. Although he struggled in his first three outings on the season, the product of the University of Hawaii is on an impressive tear. In these five games dating back to May 14, he has pitched eight innings with no runs allowed, eight strikeouts, five hits and six walks. Last season, he finished 10-0 for the purple and black with a 2.32 ERA in 36 games (five starts).

Rubber City Rumble... With the loss to the Curve Tuesday, the Aeros dropped to 6-17 (.261 win percentage) at Canal Park on the season. The defeat was also the fifth in as many games in downtown Akron this year against the first-place Curve. In contrast, Akron held a sparkling record of 207-136 (.603) at home in the previous five years combined. The Aeros also fell to nine games under .500 at 18-27 on the year with the loss, tied for the worst mark for the team in 2010.

Schoolhouse Park... Thursday is the final Education Day of the year at Canal Park as Akron and Altoona conclude this four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 10:35 a.m. tomorrow and the team currently expects a 2010-record crowd of over 8,300 fans. Please keep in mind as well the special team hours for Thursday with the administrative offices closing after the game.
