Altoona Curve News Release

AKRON, OH - The Altoona Curve have won eight straight games. It's the first eight-game winning streak for the Curve since the team rattled off a franchise-best 10 straight victories from July 24 - August 2, 2005. The Curve were able to take advantage of three Akron errors and defeat the Aeros 5-2 on Wednesday night at Canal Park.

Altoona (30-16) jumped out a 1-0 edge in the top of the fourth inning when Hector Gimenez hit a mammoth solo home run - his second in as many days - and his team leading sixth of the season.

The Curve would plate a run in the fifth when Josh Harrison singled home Chase d'Arnaud who reached on the first Akron (18-28) error of the night.

Altoona's offense would take advantage of two more Akron defensive flubs in the top of the sixth inning and plate a total of three runs on four hits in the frame.

Akron's only offense came in single spurts when Damaso Espino singled home Jared Head in the fifth. It was the only run allowed by Altoona Curve starting pitcher Bryan Morris who went 5.2 innings. The righty in his second Double-A start allowed four hits and struck out five batters.

The Aeros would score their final run in the bottom of the seventh off of Curve reliever Tony Watson, who surrendered a solo home run to Head.

The Curve will look for their ninth straight victory on Thursday morning at 10:35 a.m. Easter League wins leader Jared Hughes (7-1, 3.45) will toe the rubber for Altoona while Akron counters with their ace, RHP Paolo Espino (3-2, 3.98). Air time on flagship station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and Altoona Curve Radio Network affiliate stations is 10:05 a.m.
