Trenton Gets Shutout

(Trenton, NJ)- Erie scored two runs in the third inning and notched a 2-0 shutout win over Trenton on Thursday night from Waterfront Park. The Sea Wolves salvaged the final game of the series, and won the season-series 4-3. Trenton dropped a game behind New Britain in the battle for second place in the Northern Division Standings. New Britain defeated Binghamton by a score of 7-2 on Thursday night.

Erie scored two runs to take the lead in the third inning. With one out, Designated Hitter Cale Iorg singled off of Trenton Starting Pitcher Ryan Pope. Shortstop Danny Worth was hit by a pitch to advance Iorg to second base. After Shawn Roof struck out for the second out, Left fielder Deik Scram reached on an infield single. Iorg was able to score from second base on the infield hit to give the Sea Wolves a 1-0 lead. Right fielder Brennan Boesch followed with an RBI single to increase the lead to 2-0.

Trenton Starting Pitcher Ryan Pope (5-10) yielded only four hits two runs in six innings to take the loss. Pope struck out seven and walked only one. Erie Starting Pitcher Jared Gayhart allowed only one hit in five innings. He struck out six and walked only one. Gayhart was an emergency starter after RHP Pat Stanley left the field because of injury during his first inning warm-up tosses. Erie Reliever Cody Satterwhite came on for Gayhart and hurled three shutout innings. Erie RHP Brett Jensen earned his 12th save with a scoreless ninth inning. Trenton Shortstop Eduardo Nunez had two hits in the loss. Trenton had multiple base runners on base in an inning only one time (1st inning). The Thunder did not have a lead-off man on base in any inning during the game.

Trenton starts a four-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays) on Friday night. RHP Paul Bush (1-1, 1.65) will start for Trenton against New Hampshire RHP Randy Boone (9-7, 3.82). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
