Kris Johnson Added to Roster, Gabbard Placed on the D.L.

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox have assigned left-handed pitcher Kris Johnson to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs from Triple-A Pawtucket. Johnson will wear uniform number 35. Sea Dogs' left-handed pitcher Kason Gabbard was placed on the disabled list.

The 24 year-old Johnson spent the entire 2008 season with the Sea Dogs ranking ninth in the Eastern League with a 3.63 ERA (55 ER/ 136.1 IP) and posting a 8-9 record in 27 starts. He recorded a career high 108 strikeouts and set a Sea dogs franchise record by tossing 23.1 consecutive scoreless innings. In 22 starts with the PawSox this season, Johnson has posted a 3-13 record with a 6.35 ERA (68 ER/ 96.1 IP).

Gabbard has appeared in five games for the Sea Dogs posting a 0-4 record with a 20.77 ERA.

The Portland Sea Dogs continue their homestand with the Reading Phillies Thursday night at 7:00 PM at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs are currently battling the New Britain Rock Cats and Trenton Thunder for the final playoff spot in the Eastern League Northern Division. Portland sits 1.5 games behind both New Britain and Trenton with 21 regular season games remaining. Tickets for most 2009 Portland Sea Dogs' home games are available.
