Manchester, NH- Darin Mastroianni went 2-for-3 with two doubles and his team-leading 29th stolen base, but the Connecticut Defenders parlayed a pair of unearned runs into a 4-2 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats before a standing-room-only crowd of 7,131 on Thursday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

Connecticut (71-52) went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning against Sean Smith when Brock Bond (2-for-5, R, RBI) led off with a single, Brad Boyer (1-for-4, BB) advanced Bond with a single and Brett Pill (3-for-5, RBI) drove him in with a single for his league-leading 95th RBI of the season.

New Hampshire (56-67) drew even, 1-1 in the bottom of the second against Madison Bumgarner on a sacrifice fly by Nick Gorneault (0-for-3, SF, RBI) that plated Al Quintana (0-for-4, R), who had reached on an error and taken third on Mastorianni's first double of the game.

Brad Emaus (1-for-5, RBI) lifted the Fisher Cats to a 2-1 lead with a two-out single in the fifth, scoring Jonathan Diaz (0-for-3, BB, R), who had walked and moved to third on a pair of ground outs.

The Defenders reclaimed the lead with the aid of two Fisher Cats' errors in the top of the sixth inning. Bobby Felmy (1-for-3, BB, RBI, R) slapped a run-scoring single off losing pitcher Tim Collins. After Leon Boyd's throwing error prolonged the inning, Bond scored Felmy with a fielder's choice grounder, and Sharlon Schoop (1-for-3, BB, R) later escaped from a rundown and scored the second unearned run of the inning on Manny Mayorson's throwing error.

Bumgarner (8-1) worked five innings to earn the win, surrendering two runs -one earned- on four hits. The southpaw fanned five and walked three.

Collins (1-1) suffered his first Eastern League defeat after yielding two runs -one earned- on two hits in 1.1 innings, with one strikeout and one walk.

Shane Kauffman worked around two-out, ninth-inning singles from Todd Donovan (2-for-5, 2B) and Mayorson (2-for-4, 2B, BB) to record his first Double-A save.

The Fisher Cats open a four-game weekend series at Waterfront Park against the Trenton Thunder on Friday night at 7:05pm with New Hampshire right-hander Randy Boone (9-7, 3.82) opposing Trenton right-hander Paul Bush (1-1, 1.65).
