Connecticut Defenders News Release

MANCHESTER, NH- In their last visit to MerchantsAuto.com Stadium of the '09 regular season, Connecticut left a last impression pulling off a 4-2 come from behind victory as well as stole the series from New Hampshire 2-1.

A three run sixth inning saw eight Defenders come to the plate and take full advantage of two Fisher Cat errors to take over the game for good.

DH-Tyler LaTorre drew a leadoff walk to start the eighth and quickly moved to second on a SS-Brandon Crawford sac bunt. RF-Bobby Felmy slapped an RBI single to left to tie the game at 2-2. After a pitching change, 3B-Sharlon Schoop singled, C-Jackson Williams reached on a throwing error on RHP-Leon Boyd loading the bases. Felmy would score on Bond's fielder's choice. On the first pitch to CF-Mike McBryde, Bond stole second but Quintana caught Schoop off the third base bag and got him in a run down in which 3B-Manny Mayorson sailed a throw back home over Quintana's head allowing Schoop to score.

Connecticut jumped in front right out of the gates as 1B-Brett Pill drove in 2B-Brock Bond with an RBI single.

New Hampshire evened things up in the second. C-Al Quintana reached on a Bond error and advanced to third on CF-Darin Mastroianni's double. RF-Nick Gorneault drove in Quintana with a sac fly to deep center.

The Fisher Cats grabbed their only lead of the game in the home half of the fifth as SS-Jonathan Diaz drew a leadoff walk and 2B-Brad Emaus plated Diaz with an RBI single.

New Hampshire would have chances in the eighth and ninth putting the potential tying run on base but could never capitalize as Defenders reliever RHP-Shane Kaufman recorded his first save of the season allowing two hits over 1.2 innings of work.

Defenders' starter LHP-Madison Bumgarner (8-1) finally earned his eighth win after recording one win in his last seven starts. Bumgarner fired five innings allowed two runs-one earned off of four hits, walked three and struck out five.

Fisher Cat reliever LHP-Tim Collins (1-1) suffered the loss in just his second outing after being promoted from High-A Dunedin. Collins allowed one earned run off of two hits, walked one and fanned one in 2.2 innings of work.

Connecticut heads home to begin a seven game homestand at Dodd Stadium with a four game series versus Binghamton (Mets) starting tomorrow at 6:35pm. The B-Mets will toss LHP-Mike Antonini (5-3) against a TBA for the Defenders.
