Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
The B-Mets fell in their final meeting with the Rock Cats this season 7-2 at NYSEG Stadium Thursday night, securing the series win for New Britain, two games to one. Caleb Stewart enjoyed a two-hit night, including a double and a run scored.
The Rock Cats cracked the scoreboard first with a pair of two-out runs off B-Mets starter Chris Mason. Rene Tosoni singled up the middle with two outs and Erik Lis moved him to third on a double. Wilson Ramos followed by slapping a slider from Mason into center for a single driving home the men on base, making it 2-0.
After firing four, scoreless innings, New Britain righty Deolis Guerra ran into trouble in the fifth. Stewart doubled with one out and Jonathan Malo moved him to third with a bloop single to right. On the first pitch to the next hitter, Emmanuel Garcia, Wilson Ramos was charged with a passed ball that allowed Stewart to score, cutting the deficit in half. On that same play, Malo moved up to third on an error by Guerra, who failed to catch Ramos' throw to the plate. Garcia promptly drove him in with a sacrifice fly, tying the score.
Just as soon as Binghamton (47-75) had tied the score, New Britain took the lead right back with three runs in the sixth. Whit Robbins plated two with a two-run double off reliever Jake Ruckle, who entered after Mason allowed the first two to reach in the frame. Steve Singleton added another run with an RBI double that drove home Robbins.
New Britain (62-61) tallied for the final time in the seventh when Brian Dinkelman launched his eight homer of the season, a two-run shot off Ruckle to push the lead to 7-2.
Guerra lasted 6.2 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits to pick up his sixth win.
Mason was tagged with his first loss as a member of the B-Mets after allowing four runs in five-plus innings worth of work.
Shawn Bowman also enjoyed a two-hit day for the second straight game. He went 2-4 with a double.
Binghamton hits the road for four games with Connecticut beginning Friday night at Dodd Stadium. The B-Mets will toss LHP Brad Holt (5-3, 5.08) and the Defenders will go with RHP Garrett Broshuis (3-3, 5.20). The first pitch is slated for 6:35 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:20 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
