Arkansas Travelers News Release

SAN ANTONIO, TX - The Arkansas Travelers emerged as extra-inning winners for the second consecutive night, holding off the San Antonio Missions 3-1 in 11 innings at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium.

Travelers starter RHP Kyle McGowin did not factor into the decision but only needed 89 pitches to get through seven outstanding innings of one-run ball, surrendering five hits (all singles) with a walk and three strikeouts.

LHP Greg Mahle faced the minimum in his two scoreless innings of relief, working around a hit and a walk while finishing with one strikeout in his Friday night effort.

RHP Eduard Santos (W, 4-2) earned his fourth win of the season in large part due to a critical outfield assist from LF Blake Gailen in the bottom of the 10th, as Santos struck out two batters in the final two innings in scoreless fashion while dancing around three hits and two walks.

With the game tied at 1-1 and one out in the bottom of the 10th, C Adolfo Reina guided a single through the left side of the infield and into shallow left. RF Tyson Gillies was given the wave around third base, but Blake Gailen's throw from left was in time as C Anthony Bemboom applied the tag on Gillies who dove in head-first.

Arkansas received a sacrifice fly from 2B Sherman Johnson and a RBI groundout from 1B Wade Hinkle to move in front for good at 3-1 in the top of the 11th inning.

RHP Cody Hebner (L, 0-2) took the loss for the Missions, surrendering two runs (both earned) on three walks despite not giving up a single hit.

CF Ruben Sosa led the way for the Travelers with three hits, while Sherman Johnson finished with a pair of knocks.

Arkansas has now won three straight and remain in a tie for first place with the Springfield Cardinals.

Saturday's middle game of the series will again feature a pair of right-handers as Arkansas trots out All-Star RHP Albert Suarez (8-9, 3.14) to go up against RHP Bryan Rodriguez (6-11, 4.04) of the Missions.
