Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Leo Heras reached base four times and finished a triple shy of the cycle as Corpus Christi sunk Northwest Arkansas 9-7 Friday night at Whataburger Field before 5,648.

Heras doubled in the first, walked in the fourth, singled in the fifth, and capped the Hooks scoring with a solo homer off Kevin McCarthy in the seventh.

Kyle Westwood (9-6), who beat the Naturals for the second time in seven days, worked the first six innings. He left in favor of Aaron West ahead 8-4, Northwest Arkansas' fourth and final run off Westwood coming on a solo homer by Lane Adams, his 10th. Like Heras, Adams reached base four times and missed the cycle by a triple.

Westwood allowed seven hits, two walks, and fanned three in a 100-pitch performance (66). West earned a three-inning save, his fifth. He gave up a three-run homer to pinch-hitter Frank Schwindel in the ninth.

Second-inning doubles an out apart gave the Naturals a 1-0 lead, Alex Liddi ripping a lead-off two-bagger to left and then switching places with Adams.

Corpus Christi (30-24; 78-46) employed a similar method to knot the game against spot-starter Matt Murray. Jon Kemmer doubled to left-center, was sacrificed 90 feet by Jio Mier, and scored on Conrad Gregor's double to right.

Northwest Arkansas (20-33; 60-63) promptly snapped the tie by scoring twice in the third. Jorge Bonifacio's double into the left-center field gap sent Terrance Gore (lead-off walk) home and Raul Mondesi (infield single) crossed on Liddi's sacrifice fly.

The Hooks walked their way to a 5-3 advantage during the fourth. Murray (5-3), removed after 3 1/3 innings and Alfredo Gonzalez's RBI single, allowed three of the first four hitters to reach. Reliever Sam Selman issued bases-loaded walks to Heras and Colin Moran, and his wild pitch enabled Chan-Jong Moon (walk) to score.

Corpus Christi netted four runs on two hits, four walks, and two wild pitches.

The Hooks added on in the fifth, Selman victimized for three additional runs. Kemmer led off and was hit by a pitch, he scored when Gregor doubled to right. Mier singled and ultimately tallied on a wild pitch, and Gregor was picked up by Gonzalez's second RBI single of the night.

Liddi has a 13-game hitting streak.

Saturday, the first 1,750 fans receive a Hunter Pence Orange Hooks Jersey, complements of CITGO. Gates open at 4:30 and the pitching matchup features Corpus Christi's Michael Feliz (6-2) vs. Brooks Pounders (1-3). Special start time: 6:05.
