Arkansas Travelers News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - A ballgame that began on Thursday ended on Friday morning at Whataburger Field with the Arkansas Travelers coming back to win 10-7 in 10 innings against the Corpus Christi Hooks.
RHP Danny Reynolds (BS, 3; W, 2-3) blew the save but earned the win after allowing a run on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth.
RHP Austin Adams (SV, 1) collected his first save since May 10, 2014 after walking three batters while not allowing a hit and striking out one batter in a scoreless bottom of the 10th.
RHP Jandel Gustave (L, 5-2) was dealt his second loss of the year after surrendering three runs (all earned) on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
The Travelers relied on timely hitting and outstanding bullpen efforts to take Friday's ballgame and win the series two games to one.
Offense was aplenty early, with at least one run being scored in the first seven half innings.
Arkansas plated single runs in the first and second innings and posted two-run third and fourth innings to tie the game at 6-6.
The game remained tied until the top of the eighth when C Anthony Bemboom worked a bases-loaded, two-out walk to put Arkansas in front 7-6.
Down to their final strike in the bottom of the ninth, 1B Conrad Gregor drove a single into right field to knot the ballgame up at 7-7.
Arkansas answered right back in the top of the 10th inning, using a go-ahead sacrifice fly from Anthony Bemboom followed by a two-out, two-run double from 3B Brian Hernandez to left to further the lead to 10-7 when the top of the 10th came to a close.
The Hooks earned three walks to load the bases, but Austin Adams was able to strike out 1B A.J. Reed on a low and inside slider to preserve the win.
In the start, RHP Michael Brady surrendered six runs (one earned) on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work.
LHP Chris O'Grady worked a season-long 3.0 innings of shutout relief, surrendering two hits without a walk and two strikeouts.
RHP Nate Hyatt struck out the side in the seventh by working around a hit and a walk.
RHP Kyle Winkler (H, 5) stranded the tying run at third base in a scoreless eighth, only allowing a walk in his scoreless frame.
SS Erick Salcedo collected his first four-hit game as an Arkansas Traveler, finishing 4-for-5 with his first Double-A RBI and three runs scored.
Brian Hernandez finished 2-for-6 with a double and three RBIs in the ballgame, while Anthony Bemboom added two RBIs in the game as well.
RF Cal Towey reached base five times in the win, tying a Travs individual high with four walks while also being hit by a pitch.
With the win, the Travelers move back into a tie for first place atop the Texas League North Division second half standings with the Springfield Cardinals at 26-27.
The Travelers will have a three-game series start up on Friday at 7:05 p.m. in San Antonio and will throw out right-hander Kyle McGowin (8-7, 4.70). McGowin will be countered by a fellow right-hander in Dennis O'Grady (3-4, 5.88).
