San Antonio Drops Series to Northwest Arkansas in 13 Innings

San Antonio Missions News Release
In Thursday night's series finale at Wolff Stadium, San Antonio suffered a frustrating 3-2 loss in 13 innings.
Both teams got off to a fast start Thursday, beginning with the Naturals, who took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on right-hander Bryce Morrow when Lane Adams followed a one-out triple with a run-producing groundout.
In the bottom of the frame, San Antonio tied the game at one when it greeted starter Luke Farrell with three consecutive singles by Luis Domoromo, Benji Gonzalez and Alberth Martinez (52nd RBI).
However, from the second inning on, pitching dominated. At one point, Morrow retired 11 straight Naturals. His only other mistake on the night came in the sixth when Adams gave Northwest Arkansas a 2-1 lead with an RBI single to center. Morrow allowed just four hits and one walk, while striking out seven (one shy of career high) in his six innings.
Unfortunately for Morrow, he did not factor in the decision after his offense did not plate another run from the second through eighth innings. But the bottom of the ninth was another story as San Antonio offense worked a game-tying rally against reliever Mark Peterson.
Peterson looked well on his way towards a save when he retired both Yeison Asencio and Diego Goris to start the inning. However, Duanel Jones kept the game alive with a single into right. After Jones was lifted for pinch-runner Kyle Gaedele, catcher Griff Erickson put runners on first and third with a single of his own. That brought up Tyson Gillies, who tied the game at two when his liner to center fell just out of the reach of a diving Bubba Starling. Peterson got the Naturals out of the ninth when next batter Auston Bousfield flied out to right.
The score remained locked at two until the top of the 13th when Alex Liddi beat out an infield single to short off reliever Genison Reyes (0-1).
San Antonio threatened in its half against Benino Pruneda (2-0), loading the bases with just one out. However, Pruneda ended the game of three-hours, thirty-six minutes when he got Gillies to bang into a double play. It was the fifth double play hit into by the Missions and the third by Gillies.
San Antonio (24-29, 55-68) resumes its six-game homestand Friday with the first of three against the Arkansas Travelers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Dennis O'Grady (3-4, 5.88) will get the ball for the Missions, while the Travs counter with fellow righty Kyle McGowin (8-7, 4.70). The first 1,500 fans to enter Wolff Stadium will receive a free Missions' replica camo jersey courtesy of McCombs Ford West.
Notes: Erickson finished with a career-high, tying four hits. San Antonio pitching struck out 14 Thursday, one shy of its season high.
