Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Alex Lidd's infield single scored Parker Morin from third base in the top of the 13th inning which gave the Naturals a 3-2 lead while Benino Pruneda forced a game-ending double-play to beat the San Antonio Missions on Thursday night at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium.
The win gave Northwest Arkansas its first series win since the first week of July and it is the Naturals first series win at San Antonio since July, 2011.
The inning started with a lead-off walk to Morin who was pushed to second on Ramon Torres' sacrifice bunt. After a fielding error by Missions' first baseman Griff Erickson put men at the corners, Liddi bounced the first pitch from Genison Reyes (0-1, 0.00) to short to plate more to take 3-2 lead.
Northwest Arkansas (60-62/20-32) opened the scoring in the first inning with Raul Mondesi tripling with one-out off starter Brandon Morrow while Lane Adams brought him home with an RBI ground-out to short. San Antonio tied the game using three-straight singles in the bottom of the first off Naturals' starter Luke Farrell.
Farrell went on to retire nine straight batters after allowing the three straight hits. The right-hander worked 6.0 innings allowing the single run on six hits with a pair of strikeout and no walks to turn in the quality start.
The 1-1 lock held until the sixth inning when Adams delivered again. This time, a two-out, two-strike single to score Mondesi from second base making it a 2-1 Naturals' advantage.
San Antonio (55-68/24-29) tied the game with a two-out, run-scoring double by Tyson Gillies off reliever Mark Peterson to force extra innings.
Right-hander Aroni Nina worked a scoreless seventh inning which was followed by a southpaw Daniel Stumpf's scoreless eighth.
Pruneda (2-0, 4.36) worked the final three innings to earn his second win of the season.
Northwest Arkansas turned a season-high five double plays on the night with Gillies grounding into the game-ending twin killing to secure the win. Gillies wrapped into three of the five double plays on the night.
With the go-ahead RBI single in the 13th, Liddi extended his hitting streak to 12 games, the third longest by a Natural this season.
The Naturals head south to Corpus Christi, Texas and begin a three-game series against the Houston Astro's Double-A affiliate with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch on Friday night at Whataburger Field.
Right-hander Matt Murray (5-2, 4.10) takes the hill for his seventh start of the season against right-hander Kyle Westwood (8-6, 4.50) for the Hooks.
