Arkansas Travelers News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MO - The Arkansas Travelers received a terrific performance from Ryan Brasier and four home runs during a 6-1 victory over the Springfield Cardinals at Hammons Field on Wednesday night. Brasier (6-9) earned his first win in nine appearances allowing just one run in eight innings. Charlton Jimerson (4) and Jeremy Moore (11) each hit two home runs as the Travs evened the three-game series at one apiece.

The victory is the Travs' third in four games and improves their second half record to 16-23 (42-67 overall). Springfield's three-game win streak is halted as the Cards fall to 20-19 in the second half (58-51 overall).

Aside from allowing a home run in the second inning, Brasier allowed no Cardinal base runners to second during his second-longest performance of the season. Improving to 2-1 against Springfield, he tied a season-high with eight strikeouts and walked just one batter scattering six base hits.

Cards right hander Trey Hearne (2-2) took the loss surrendering five runs in four innings on seven hits, three of which left the park. Hearne also walked four batters and struck out three.

The Travs stormed out in the second inning as Jimerson led off with a shot over the left field wall. Moore then went opposite field blasting a homer over the same fence for a 2-0 lead.

Chris Swauger began the bottom of the second with a home run (3) to left field to get the Cards within one run. Xavier Scruggs singled with two outs, but Brasier retired the side when he caught a screaming liner hit by Jose Garcia. Brasier then retired 12 of 14 batters from the third through the sixth inning allowing the Travs to build a bigger lead.

Moore hit his second home run leading off the fourth inning to straight away centerfield for a 3-1 lead. Hearne faltered with command walking three in a row with two outs before Andrew Romine plated two runs with a single to center for a 5-1 lead.

Romine finished 2-for-5 joining Jimerson and Moore as the only Travs with two base hits each. Tyson Auer (six games), Alexi Amarista (12 games) and Efren Navarro (nine games) all saw hitting streaks end on Wednesday.

The last run of the game came in the eighth inning when Jimerson lifted a home run off Ramon Delgado in the eighth. Jimerson's blast was the only Travs base hit in five innings against the Cards bullpen.

After Brasier pitched a perfect eighth inning, Steven Geltz pitched a shutout ninth inning with two strikeouts to end the game.

Time of game was 2:25 and the paid attendance was 3,744.

The finale of this series is set for Thursday night as the Travs send Tyler Chatwood (2-4, 3.50) to the mound against St. Louis right hander Kyle Lohse (ML Rehab). First pitch at Hammons Field is set for 7:10 p.m.
