Springfield Cardinals News Release

Springfield, MO - Winners of three straight games, including game one of their three game series with Arkansas, the Cardinals looked to get to four in a row for the first time since early May.

It would be the Travelers that would jump out in front of the Cardinals and starter Trey Hearne as Charlton Jimerson and Jeremy Moore blasted back-to-back home runs to start the second inning to grab a quick 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning.

Springfield responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the 2nd as DH Chris Swauger hit his third homer in as many games, a solo shot to left field, to bring the Cards within a run, 2-1.

After a scoreless third inning posted by Hearne, the Cardinals right hander would allow a solo home run to Jeremy Moore, his second of the game and 11th of the year, to give the Travs a 3-1 edge in the top of the 4th inning. With two outs, Hearne would issue three straight walks before Andrew Romine singled softly to center field to plate two more runs to put Arkansas up 5-1.

Tom Eager and Tyler Norrick would combine to throw three scoreless frames out of the Springfield bullpen, but in the 8th, Cardinals newcomer Ramon Delgado allowed a solo homerun to Charlton Jimerson, his 2nd of the night, to make the score 6-1 Travs.

The Cardinals offense struggled to figure out Travelers' starter Ryan Brasier as he lasted eight innings allowing only six hits and did not allow a runner passed first base after Swauger's homerun in the 2nd inning while tying a season high with eight strikeouts.

In the 9th, Springfield would load the bases against reliever Steven Geltz with two outs on singles by Andrew Brown and Pete Kozma and a walk by Xavier Scruggs before Jose Garcia lined out to left field to end the game at a 6-1 loss for the Cardinals ending their winning streak at three games.

Springfield will conclude their three game series with the Arkansas Travelers Thursday night at 7:10pm. The Cardinals will send right hander major league rehabber Kyle Lohse to the mound against right hander Tyler Chatwood (2-4) for the Travelers.

Thursday night will conclude the eight game, seven day homestand with the ever popular Johnsonville "Buck a Brat" Night featuring $1 Johnsonville Bratwurst throughout the game.
