Traverse City Topples Windy City for Sixth Straight Win

CRESTWOOD, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back as the Beach Bums won their sixth game in a row, downing the Windy City ThunderBolts 9-3.
Leading 1-0, Traverse City opened the game up with a four-run fourth inning, keyed by a two-run single by Brian Heere. The single came on the heels of some wildness from ThunderBolts starter Donovan Drake who walked Chris Kay and Kyle Eveland with one out before giving up a single to Ryan Still to load the bases and set up Heere.
After TC plated another run in the fifth, Windy City got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from Mike Torres. The Beach Bums would get one of the tallies back in the eighth as with two outs Jeff Flagg singled and Marcus Nidiffer doubled him home to make it 7-2.
WC would score a run in the bottom of the eighth on a Brandon Decker homer, but the Beach Bums would counter with two in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch and a Kyle Colligan sac fly to score Eveland and Still to cement the final score.
The win went to Brooks Belter (3-0) who allowed two runs over 5.2 innings. Scott Dunn tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless ball for his third save. Drake (1-1) took the loss for Windy City.
Offensively, Heere tied a career-high with four RBI and Still reached base all five times he came to the plate with two singles, two walks and was hit by a pitch.
Game two of the series comes up on Thursday night as Bennett Whitmore (2-1, 3.93) gets the start for Traverse City against Mike Recchia (3-2, 4.34) for Windy City. Coverage on Sunny Country 101.9 will begin at 7:45 p.m. outside of an 8:05 first pitch.
