Rockford RiverHawks News Release

NORMAL, Ill. - Cody Hallahan's four-hitter went to waste on Wednesday as the Rockford RiverHawks lost, 1-0, to the Normal CornBelters.

Four Normal pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout at The Corn Crib.

Hallahan (1-3) struck out just two, but didn't walk a batter until the eighth. He faced just five batters over the minimum and threw 99 pitches, 66 for strikes. Hallahan pitched Rockford's first complete game this season.

Hallahan had a shutout until the seventh inning. Pat McKenna led off the seventh with a double to left-center field and moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt. Rockford brought the infield in, but Steve Felix hit a chopper to shortstop Ted Obregon high enough to force the Obregon to concede the run and retire Felix instead.

Normal starter Tyler Stovall, who leads the Frontier League in bases on balls, matched a season-worst with a six-walk night, but struck out a season-high eight and held Rockford to a hit. The RiverHawks were hitless until Obregon's two-out single in the fifth.

Rockford stranded nine, four in scoring position.

Kyle DiMartino (1-0) struck out the side in the seventh inning and won in relief. Marshall Schuler gave up back-to-back, two-out hits in the ninth, but finished the game to get his second save.

The series continues at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The RiverHawks are home to play Evansville at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, June 27. GFS Marketplace and Village Hearth sponsor 50 Cent Hot Dog Night.
