Normal CornBelters News Release

The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, outlasted the Rockford RiverHawks in a pitcher's dual, winning by a score of 1-0 Wednesday night at the Corn Crib. The victory moved the 'Belters out of the cellar and into 6th place in the Frontier League's Western Division.

Normal starting pitcher Tyler Stovall did his job on the mound, walking six, striking out eight, and allowing just one hit over six innings. Not to be outdone, Rockford's Cody Hallahan (1-3) was equally as effective but suffered the rare complete game loss for the RiverHawks, throwing eight innings of four hit ball.

'Belter reliever Kyle DiMartino (1-0) replaced Stovall in the 7th and promptly struck out the side.

Shortstop Patrick McKenna followed that with a leadoff double to start the bottom of the frame. A sacrifice bunt by designated hitter Robert Brooks moved McKenna to third. That brought up right fielder Steven Felix who delivered with an RBI groundout, giving Normal a 1-0 lead.

'Belter lefty Rich Mascheri threw a scoreless 8th before handing the ball to closer Marshall Schuler (2) in the 9th who sealed the victory for Normal.

The series will continue Thursday evening at the Corn Crib when RHP Ryan Krumlauf, (0-1 2.37 ERA) takes the hill for the 'Belters, facing off against RHP Drew Rucinski (2-1, 2.49 ERA) of Rockford.

Mid-Illini Credit Union will be giving a CornBelters t-shirt to the first 500 fans through the gate! Fans can also enjoy select $1 draft beers during Thirst Quenching Thursday! Beer Nuts Peanuts and Bar Mix are $1 as well! And thanks to Woith Insurance, you can't lose with the 50/50 Raffle! Any raffle ticket purchase of $5 or more is insured for $2.50.
