London Rippers News Release

LONDON, ONTARIO - A three run 2nd inning carried the Lake Erie Crushers (13-18) to a 4-2 win over the London Rippers (13-18) in the first game of their three game series.

Two of those runs were unearned after Rippers' starter, Jamie Richmond (3-2) threw wide of first base on a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Decker, allowing Jacob Taylor to score.

Adrian Ortiz drove in Decker for the final run of the 2nd, pushing the Crushers up, 3-0.

Lake Erie made it 4-0 when Ortiz scored on a 5th inning single by Andrew Davis.

London's first two runs were also unearned. With Jim Vahalik at first in the 5th, Aaron Glaum hit a grounder past shortstop, Andrew Davis. The throw from the outfield went over catcher, Brian Erie's head, scoring Vahalik and moving Glaum to third.

Glaum then scored on Matt Wright's groundout, cutting Lake Erie's lead in half at 4-2.

Richmond finished 6 innings, giving up four runs (one earned) and 7 hits while striking out seven. He now has a team leading 40 strikeouts on the season.

London had runners on 2nd and 3rd in the bottom of the 9th with two outs when pinch- hitter David Christensen hit a rocket to centerfield, but right at Adrian Ortiz.

"It's all about the little things." Manager, David Martin says, " We're having a hard time executing the little things and we have to find a way to get better."

London and Lake Erie play tomorrow at Labatt Park for game two of this three-game series. First pitch is 6:30pm. Eric Katzman (1-2 4.05) faces Josh Rickards (1-1 5.18).
