Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville, NC-- Asheville wrapped up the first half of the season in style with a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at McCormick Field. They took three out of four from the Rome Braves and finished with a 41-28 record heading to the All Star Break.
The Asheville Tourists started things off in the bottom of the first inning with three runs. David Dahl and Micheal Benjamin led off the frame with back-to-back singles. Raimel Tapia grounded into a double play that scored Dahl and after Correlle Prime followed with a double, Jordan Patterson clubbed a two-run Home Run to right field.
The game remained 3-0 until Rome plated a run in the fifth off Johendi Jiminian. Conner Oliver singled into right field and Carlos Sanchez came home from third. The Tourists responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Zach Osborne raced home from first base on a double down the right field line by Dahl. Later in the inning Prime beat out an infield single that allowed Dahl to score.
The Braves began the sixth inning with three consecutive doubles that made it 5-3. With Victor Reyes at second, Conner Lein flew out to centerfield. Reyes tagged up and went to third; or so he thought. The Tourists appealed that Reyes left early and the base umpire agreed resulting in a crucial double play. Jonathan Schuerholz argued the call and was ejected from the game.
Andrew Brown, Jefri Hernandez, and Dylan Stamey pitched the final three innings and did not allow a run. Stamey's perfect ninth inning now gives his ten saves on the season and Jiminian moved to 8-3 by tossing six strong innings.
Following the break, the Tourists are back in action on Thursday night in Augusta, Georgia.
