The Charleston RiverDogs scored all 10 of their runs in the last three innings as they took a 10-3 win over the Lexington Legends Sunday in front of 5,124 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Starting pitchers Crawford Simmons of Lexington and Ian Clarkin of Charleston each pitched five scoreless innings. Both were relieved at the start of the sixth inning, and the Legends broke through with a run against Omar Luis in the bottom of the sixth. Kevin Kuntz led off with a double, was sacrificed to third by Alfredo Escalera, and scored on a wild pitch.

The RiverDogs answered quickly in the seventh. With one out, Gosuke Katoh walked and moved to second on a wild pitch by Matt Alvarez. Michael O'Neill was hit by a pitch, and Tyler Wade walked, loading the bases. Dustin Fowler followed with a grand slam, his third home run of the season, giving Charleston a 4-1 lead.

Lexington came back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Chad Johnson led off with a single, Elier Hernandez was hit by a pitch and Fred Ford walked. Carlos Garcia's single to left field scored Johnson and Hernandez and left the score at 4-3.

But the RiverDogs pulled away with four runs in the eighth inning. A walk to Kale Sumner, an error by pitcher Jose Rodriguez on a bunt by John Murphy and a walk to Brandon Thomas loaded the bases. After Tripp Davis relieved Rodriguez, Katoh singled home two runs and took second on the throw home as Thomas held at third. Tyler Wade followed with another two-run single, giving Charleston an 8-3 lead.

Charleston added two runs in the ninth inning to close out the scoring.

Luis (2-2) got the win. Alvarez (2-2) was the losing pitcher.

The Legends finished the first half of the South Atlantic League season with a record of 29 wins and 41 losses. The three-day All-Star break begins Monday, with the mid-season All-Star game scheduled for Tuesday night in Hickory, North Carolina. Catcher-first baseman Frank Schwindel and outfielder Dominique Taylor will represent the Legends.

The Legends will start the second half with a four-game series against Delmarva beginning Thursday night in Salisbury, Maryland. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

New divisional races will begin Thursday. Savannah won the Southern Division championship for the first half, and Greensboro won the Northern Division. With their division championships, those two teams have won berths in the post-season playoffs.
