HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads fell to the Asheville Tourists, 9-4, before 2,832 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Friday night.

Hickory (6-3) struck first right away for the early lead in the bottom of the first against RHP Daniel Winkler (W, 1-1). SS Luis Sardinas led off with a base hit to right-center field and moved to second on a fielding error on the play. RF Chris Grayson quickly brought in Sardinas with an RBI double to left, making it 1-0. Grayson advanced to third on a ground out, before scoring one out later on an RBI single from 3B Hanser Alberto, doubling the early 'Dads lead to 2-0.

The Tourists (5-4) wasted no time in responding, striking for three runs in the top of the second against RHP Jerad Eickhoff (L, 1-1). With runners on second and third after a single and a double to start the inning, Eickhoff battled back to strike out the next batter. However, C Ryan Casteel placed a ground out to the right side of the infield, plating RF Jared Simon from third base. With two outs, SS Rosell Herrera grounded a ball to short, but Sardinas committed a throwing error, scoring 1B Tyler Massey and extending the inning. CF Delta Cleary, Jr. capped the frame with an RBI single, providing Asheville with a 3-2 lead.

Eickhoff and Winkler alternated scoreless frames through the third and fourth, but the Tourists struck for four tallies in the top of the fifth. With two outs and no one on, LF David Kandilas knocked a base hit to keep the frame alive. He then scored on a single by 2B Sam Mende that Grayson misplayed in right field for an error, advancing Mende all the way to third. DH Harold Riggins brought Mende in with an RBI double, then trotted home with a two-run homer by Simon, making it 7-2.

The Crawdads began chipping away immediately in the bottom of the fifth. Grayson led off the inning with a double and took third base on a wild pitch. 2B Rougned Odor smacked an RBI single to left-center, scoring Grayson for the inning's first run. Odor advanced all the way to third on a base hit from DH Zach Cone, before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Alberto, cutting the deficit to 7-4.

LHP Chris Hanna kept the 'Dads close, logging 3.1 scoreless innings from late in the fifth through the eighth, but Asheville padded the lead in the top of the ninth against RHP Phil Klein. 3B Tyler Story led off with a solo home run, followed quickly by a Casteel single. Cateel moved to second on a single, took third on a fielder's choice and ended up scoring on a throwing error, accounting for the 9-4 final score in favor of the Tourists.
