Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - One night after the Augusta GreenJackets shut out the Savannah Sand Gnats, Savannah returned the favor by blanking the GreenJackets 10-0 in front of 3,157 at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Friday night.

Even though the GreenJackets came into this Friday the 13th tilt with three straight wins on the infamous occasion, they were certainly snakebitten tonight. The Sand Gnats started the scoring party early and kept it going, jumping out to a big 5-0 lead in the second inning on four hits and a pair of walks in an inning where the Gnats batted around. Albert Cordero singled home a run, Brandon Brown tripled home a pair, a Cam Maron RBI groundout yielded another while Brian Harrison's run-scoring hit capped the action in the five-run frame.

The Sand Gnats added two more in the fifth on a Travis Taijeron RBI single and Cordero's run-scoring double. The runs would prove plenty for Alex Panteliodis (2-0), who earned his second win against the GreenJackets in as many starts. Panteliodis allowed two hits in five shutout innings, walking four and striking out three to get the win.

GreenJackets Adalberto Mejia (0-2) struggled in his second stateside start, leaving due to injury in the third inning. He allowed five runs on five hits and four walks in 2.1 innings on a night where GreenJackets pitching walked nine Savannah hitters - one shy of a single-game season-high.

Savannah would add window-dressing runs in the ninth on Brown's second two-run triple of the night and a TJ Rivera sacrifice fly for the final 10-0 margin.

Despite the loss, the GreenJackets have still won four of their last six and will look for another win in Saturday's third game of the series. Kyle Crick (0-0, 2.45) makes his Lake Olmstead Stadium debut against fellow righty Domingo Tapia (0-0, 5.40). The first postgame fireworks show of the season will immediately follow the game. First pitch comes at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1340 AM and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com. Single-game tickets for any GreenJackets home game are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
