STAT OF THE NIGHT: The Shorebirds bullpen has worked 18.2 innings over the last four nights. During the four games, they have allowed 16 hits and eight runs (3.95 ERA). Last night, Williams Louico worked three innings and Devin Jones threw one.
LARGEST SINCE '07: Last night's attendance of 4,312 was the largest for a home opener since the 2007 season. In 2007, the Shorebirds lost to West Virginia (2-1) to open the home portion of the season in front of 6,907 fans.
PREVIEW: The Shorebirds tallied runs in the eighth and ninth innings but fell to the Greensboro Grasshoppers 3-2 in the home opener. The Shorebirds have lost three straight games, all by one run. The Shorebirds are two games out of first place behind Greensboro and Hickory.
TRANSACTION: The Shorebirds made their first in-season player move yesterday afternoon. Former Riverdale Baptist star Tom Winegardner was added from extended spring training and Adam Davis was transferred to extended spring. Winegardner began his college career at Coastal Carolina and finished his career at Cumberland University in Tennessee. Last season, he batted .187 in 41 games for the GCL Orioles.
STARTING PITCHING: Shorebirds starting pitching has struck out 36 batters in 32.2 innings in eight games. They have walked 11. The starters have allowed 12 earned runs (3.35 ERA) on 26 hits so far. No starter has allowed more than five hits or three runs.
BUNDY'S EXCELLENCE: In six perfect innings this season, Dylan Bundy has not allowed a hit or a run. In fact, he has not allowed a base runner. Bundy has retired all 18 batters that have come to the plate against him. The Orioles first round pick has 12 strikeouts, which ranks sixth in the SAL. Three players pace the SAL with 15 strikeouts (The fewest innings pitched of the three is 9.0).
OFFENSE OVER LAST TWO NIGHTS: The Shorebirds have scored just three runs on 11 total hits in the last two games. Two nights ago, they did not score until the seventh inning. Last night, they went scoreless until the eighth inning. The Shorebirds have struck out 29 times over the last two games.
WEBB'S NUMBERS UP: Brenden Webb was the lone Shorebirds player with multiple hits last night. He had a double in the first inning and an RBI triple in the eighth. Webb has four multi-hit games on the year. He also has an RBI in five of seven games played this season.
9 K's in 6 IP: Shorebirds reliever Williams Louico added four strikeouts to his total last night. He ranks second on the team with nine strikeouts. Louico also fanned four batters in his first outing on April 7 against Asheville.
4 LOSSES BY 7 TOTAL RUNS: The Shorebirds four losses have come by seven total runs. They lost by more than one run just once (8-4 to Asheville on April 7).
