Todd's Walk-Off Hr in 11th Gives Lexington 6-5 Win Over Kannapolis

Alex Todd's home run in the bottom of the 11th inning gave the Lexington Legends a 6-5 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Todd, who had three hits in the game, drove a pitch from Kannapolis reliever Steve McCray over the bleachers in left field to win it for the Legends, who had trailed 3-0 until they rallied with five runs in the sixth inning.

Kannapolis took the lead with two runs in the third inning. With two outs and no one on base, Michael Johnson doubled and scored on a single by Dusty Harvard. Harvard stole second and came home on a single by Kevan Smith.

The Intimidators added a run in the sixth when Smith doubled, went to third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch by Legends' reliever Evan Grills.

Lexington sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the sixth. Delino DeShields Jr. doubled to right center field, and went to third on Todd's single. After Jordan Scott walked to load the bases, Bryan Blough relieved Kannapolis starter Scott Snodgress. Zach Johnson's sacrifice fly to left field scored DeShields with the first Lexington run as all three runners advanced. Matt Duffy, who also had three hits in the game for Lexington, followed with a single up the middle, scoring Todd and Scott to tie the game at 3-3. Tyler Burnett's double sent Duffy to third, from where he scored on a wild pitch to give the Legends the lead. After Emilio King grounded out and Roberto Pena walked, Justin Gominsky singled to center, driving home Burnett with the fifth run of the inning.

Leighton Pangilinan's first homer of the season, a solo shot with one out in the eighth inning, closed the gap to one at 5-4. Rangel Ravelo followed with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch by Murilo Gouvea. Walker drew a base on balls, and when he broke for second with Martin Medina at the plate, Gouvea's throw went into center field for an error, and Ravelo scored to tie the game.

The score remained 5-5 until Todd's blast with two outs in the 11th.

Dayan Diaz (2-0), who worked the last three innings, got the win. McCray (0-1) was the losing pitcher.

The series is even at one win apiece, and continues with a 7:05 p.m. game Saturday.
