Asheville Tourists News Release

CHARLESTON, SC-- Saturday night was one of those nights where it just felt like one or two plays could be the difference. The Charleston RiverDogs tallied back-to-back two outs hits in the bottom of the sixth to break a tie game. That run proved to be the game-winner for the RiverDogs as they held off the Asheville Tourists 3-2.

In the bottom of the first, Connor Spencer scored Devyn Bolasky when his fly-ball into centerfield was mishandled. The Tourists captured the lead in the top of the fourth inning. With two on and two outs, Wes Rogers laced a triple to left-centerfield plating both runners. Austin Aune then clubbed a solo Home Run in the fifth for Charleston to knot the game up 2-2.

Both starting pitchers, Asheville's Ryan Castellani and Charleston's David Palladino, went five innings. Jerry Vasto came in for the Tourists in the sixth. After Vasto sat down the first two hitters he faced, he jumped ahead of Collin Slaybaugh 0-2. The RiverDogs catcher fouled off a pair of two strike pitches before serving a double into left. Vince Conde followed with a groundball single through the right side of the infield to score Slaybaugh.

Rony Bautista, who pitched four innings in relief of Palladino, retired the side in order in three of them. Asheville did have an opportunity in the seventh. Back-to-back one out singles by Dom Nunez and Luis Jean followed by a walk to Omar Carrizales loaded the bases. Bautista responded by striking out Forrest Wall and induced an inning-ending groundout off the bat of Shane Hoelscher.

The two teams have split the first six games of their 23-game season series with each team winning two of three at home. Asheville will look to salvage a series split with Sunday's late afternoon contest scheduled for 5:05pm.
