BlueClaws Back over .500 with 3-2 Win over Hickory

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The BlueClaws held off Hickory with Joey DeNato getting the final six outs of the game as Lakewood topped Hickory 3-2 on Saturday night at FirstEnergy Park.

With the win, the BlueClaws improved to 27-26 on the season and they are back over .500 for the first time since May 6th. Lakewood had dropped their last six tries in getting over the .500 mark.

Hickory had the tying run on second base with one out in the 9th inning but DeNato, who earned his second save, got Jose Cardona to fly out to right and Isiah Kiner-Falefa to strike out swinging to end the game.

The BlueClaws jumped out a 2-0 first inning lead on an RBI double by Carlos Tocci and another by Damek Tomscha. Tomscha added a SAC fly in the 4th inning to drive in the other BlueClaws run.

Eliniery Garcia allowed two runs over six innings to earn the win and improve to 3-5 on the season. Nick Rodesky got a double-play to get out of a bases loaded jam in the 7th inning of what was his season debut.

Hickory starter Brett Martin, who gave up three runs in four innings, fell to 3-2 after taking the loss.

Rhys Hoskins, the league's leading hitter, went 1-2 with a walk and is hitting .337 on the season.

The BlueClaws and Crawdads finish their series on Sunday at 1:05 pm. RHP Ricardo Pinto (5-1) starts for Lakewood against RHP Ariel Jurado (7-0).
