AUGUSTA, GA - The Lexington Legends scored seven runs in the ninth inning for a come-from-behind 13-7 win over the Augusta GreenJackets Saturday night.
Augusta had taken the lead in the bottom of the eighth when Andrew Cain homered to break a 6-6 tie.
The Legends came back quickly in the ninth against reliever Reyes Moronta. Humberto Arteaga led off with a single and scored the tying run on a double by Alfredo Escalera. Escalera scored the go-ahead run on a double by Ryan O'Hearn . A wild pitch sent O'Hearn to third, and after Wander Franco walked, Reyes was replaced by Carlos Diaz. Brandon Downes' sacrifice fly brought O'Hearn home, giving the Legends a 9-7 lead. Chase Vallot followed with a triple, scoring Franco. Vallot held at third on an infield hit by Samir Duenez, and a walk to Corey Toups loaded the bases. Vallot scored on a wild pitch, and Duenez came home when Michael Hill's grounder got through third baseman Jonah Arenado for an error. Toups went to third on the play, and he scored the seventh run of the inning on Arteaga's sacrifice fly.
Each team scored a run in the first inning, and after the Legends had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the third, Augusta came back with four in the bottom of the third, two scoring on a triple by Skyler Ewing.
The Legends responded with four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-5 lead. With one out, Duenez and Toups singled, and Duenez came home on a double by Hill. Arteaga's single scored Toups, and Escalera's sacrifice fly brought Hill home with the tying run. O'Hearn's single scored Arteaga to put the Legends in front.
Augusta tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth, and it stayed 6-6 until Cain's homer in the eighth.
Brennan Henry (1-0), who joined the Legends Friday, got the win in his first Lexington appearance. He entered the game in the seventh, and worked the final three innings. Cain's homer was the only hit allowed by Henry.
Moronta (1-4) took the loss.
The first four hitters in the Legends lineup - Arteaga, Escalera, O'Hearn and Franco -- each had two runs batted in.
The Legends have won two out of three in the series, which concludes Sunday. Game time is 5:05 p.m.
