Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV - June 6, 2015) - The West Virginia Power lost in game three to the Rome Braves by a 5-4 final on Saturday night at State Mutual Stadium in Georgia. With the game tied at three in the eighth inning, Jordan Edgerton hit a two-run home run off Julio Vivas to give the Braves the win and a 2-1 series lead.
The Braves tallied an unearned run in the bottom of the first for the first run of the game. A one-out error by Pablo Reyes allowed Omar Obregon to reach base. Obregon stole second and third, then scored on an RBI single from Tanner Krietemeier.
West Virginia scored a run in the top of the second to tie the game at one. Taylor Gushue drew a nine-pitch walk to lead off the inning. He then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tito Polo and scored on a fielding error by Ozhaino Albies.
In the bottom of the second, Rome responded with two runs. With two outs, the Braves hit back-to-back doubles and added an RBI single from Albies to make it 3-1.
The Power tied it up in the fourth. Jerrick Suiter hit a one-out single and advanced to third on a Tyler Filliben single. With runners on the corners, Braves starter Alec Grosser threw a wild pitch that allowed Suiter to score and Filliben advanced to second. Filliben scored when Elvis Escobar lashed a single to center.
Rome provided the final blow in with two outs in the eighth inning. Obregon hit a singled to left and scored when Edgerton pulled the two-run home run over the left field wall to give the Braves the 5-3 advantage.
The Power tallied their final run of the game in the ninth inning. With Escobar on first and one out, Pablo Reyes struck out. However, a wild pitch allowed Escobar to reach second. Despite being out, Reyes was running up the first base line, which prompted a throw from Bryan De La Rosa, who sailed it into right field and allowed Escobar to score.
Power starter Colten Brewer tossed six innings and put up a quality start but did not factor into the decision. The right hander allowed three runs on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Vivas (0-1) suffered the loss while Fernando Miranda (1-0) picked up the win with two innings in relief.
