Toros Sweep Season Series with Springfield

Austin, TX March 24, 2010- The Austin Toros beat the Armor for the second night in a row at the Austin Convention Center, 118-89.

Marcus Williams, who was perfect for the night (8-8 shooting, 9-9 free throws, four assists) led the Toros in the first quarter with nine points. Kyle McAlarney and the Armor were able to end the quarter on a 13-5 run, giving them the advantage, 30-22.

Springfield's lead did not last long as the Toros started the quarter with a 10-2 run, tying the game at 32. With 6:00 left in the quarter, the Toros were able to pull away after Lewis Clinch connected on a three-point jumper. Dwayne Jones ended the half with a buzzer-beater slam dunk, putting the Toros up 54-46. In the first half the Toros were perfect at the line (11-11) and productive from beyond the arc (7-14).

After the break, the Toros never looked back. Their defense did not allow Springfield to make a basket from long distance, and held them to six baskets in the third quarter.

Beginning the fourth quarter with a 22 point lead (88-66,) the Toros bench continued to score. Clinch put up 23 points on the evening, while Squeaky Johnson added 12 points.

Williams lead all in scoring (29) and Dwayne Jones added another double-double (20 points, 18 rebounds). On assignment from the Spurs, Curtis Jerrells contributed 12 points and seven assists. Eddie Basden also scored in double figures (12).

Justin Hawkins put up 22 points for Springfield. Two other players scored in double figures: Noel Felix (13), Kyle McAlarney (13).

Austin (28-16) will host Bakersfield Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. CST at the Austin Convention Center. Springfield (7-38) will head to Sioux Falls for a two-game series Friday at 8:00 p.m. CST.
