Rio Grande Valley's Harris Signs With Houston Rockets
March 24, 2010 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
NEW YORK, March 23, 2010 - The Houston Rockets have signed Mike Harris of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, it was announced today. Harris' GATORADE Call-Up, the 26th in the NBA D-League this year, is his second to Houston and his third overall this season. He joins three other Rockets with NBA D-League experience.
Harris has appeared in 34 games for Rio Grande Valley this season, averaging an NBA D-League-high 27.1 points to go with 10.5 rebounds (third in the NBA D-League). He has scored in double figures in all 34 games, while recording 21 double-doubles this season.
A key contributor to the Vipers this season, he led the team in scoring on 24 occasions and rebounding 19 times. He recorded an NBA D-League season-high 48 points to go with 24 rebounds in a 126-116 overtime road victory over the Dakota Wizards on Jan. 19. For his efforts, Harris was named NBA D-League Player of the Month for games played in January, and earned NBA D-League Performer of the Week honors twice, on Jan. 18 and March 15.
The 6-6 forward earned two call-ups earlier this season, first in December to the Rockets and then in February to the Washington Wizards. In seven NBA games this season with Houston and Washington, Harris averaged 1.3 points and 3.6 minutes.
A four-year contributor at Rice, Harris averaged 20.6 points and 11.7 rebounds in 31 games during his senior season and was named NABC All-NCAA District 9 first team for his efforts that year. He finished his collegiate career as Rice's all-time leading scorer (2,104 points) and rebounder (1,111 rebounds).
Harris is expected to join the Rockets this afternoon and be available tomorrow when the team travels to face the Oklahoma City Thunder at Ford Center.
