MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that they have acquired guard Travis Holmes (6-4, 195, Virginia Military Institute) and forward Louis Graham (6-8, 220, Georgia Southern University).
In a related move, the Vipers waived guard Craig Winder (6-2, 190, Texas) due to injury. Winder is expected to be out until the end of the month while recovering from surgery to repair a torn left meniscus.
In four seasons at VMI, Holmes averaged 14.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.7 steals while shooting 43.7% from the field in 116 games. During his season year of 2008-09, Holmes averaged a career-high 19.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.2 steals per game while shooting 49.6% from the field.
Holmes and his twin brother, Chavis, became the NCAA's all-time leading scoring twins. They also won the North Carolina state championship in 2003 with Vance High School. Travis Holmes led the nation in steals as a sophomore with 111 and set a single-game school record with 11 against Bridgewater.
Graham played in 16 games for Vitoria SC/M.Couto Alves Guimaraes in Portugal last season, averaging 16.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game. The 2008 graduate of Georgia Southern averaged 12.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 51.3% from the field.
A third-year Viper, Winder is averaging 14.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals in 22.5 minutes in 27 games while hitting 51.1% of his shots, 35.3% from behind the arc and 76.5% from the free throw line. He has missed the last six games with the injury. Over his last nine games, Winder averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.4 steals in 33.1 minutes per game. Winder hit 54.9% (79-for-144) of his shot attempts, including 39.3% (11-for-28) from behind the arc. He also made 53-of-63 (84.1%) free throw attempts.
