On Wednesday, November 12 the Toronto Marlies will be part of their third school visit of the 2008-09 season. Alex Foster, Phil Oreskovic and Stefano Giliati will head to WH Morden Public School in Oakville at 1:30 p.m. to talk to students about anti-bullying in schools. The voice of the Toronto Marlies, John Bartlett and Duke the Dog will also be in attendance.

Recap: The Marlies began their five-game road trip with a 5-2 defeat to their QEW and division-rival, the Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday night in the Steel City. The Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead against the Marlies after the first period. Andre Deveaux scored his fourth power play goal of the season after receiving a pass from Tim Stapleton to cut into the 'Dogs lead. After Hamilton went up 3-1, Kris Newbury beat Marc Denis to make it a one-goal game. The Bulldogs added two goals in the third period to beat the Marlies 5-2. Justin Pogge made 23 saves in the loss.ranks second (tie) on the Royals with four goals. Patrick Wellar currently ranks third (tie) on the team with 30 penalty minutes and has collected two assists. James Reimer has appeared in four games for Reading and has earned a record of 2-1-0. Maple Leafs prospect, Michael Ouzas who is currently playing for the Fresno Falcons (ECHL) has a record of 3-1-0 with a 2.18 goals-against average and 0.935 save percentage.

MARLIES QUICK HITS:

- Kris Newbury leads the team with 12 points (four goals, eight assists). Tim Stapleton ranks second on the Marlies with nine points (one goal, eight assists). Andre Deveaux ranks third with seven points.

- Newbury, Sifers, Kronwall and Battaglia all share the team-lead with a plus-one rating. Andre Deveaux leads the team with 45 penalty minutes.

- Andre Deveaux has scored a goal in four of his past seven games. Last season with the Chicago Wolves, he scored seven goals and added 11 assists in 66 games and also went on to help the team win the Calder Cup.

- Tim Stapleton has notched six assists over the past five games.

- Former Toronto Marlies forward, John Mitchell scored his first career NHL goal on Sat., Nov. 1 against the New York Rangers. He went onto score another goal and added an assist in the Maple Leafs 5-2 victory.

- The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled forward Jiri Tlusty from the Marlies on Friday, November 7. In five games with the Marlies, Tlusty collected two assists and four penalty minutes.

- The Marlies continue their five-game road trip on next Friday night when they travel to Winnipeg to take on their division-rival, the Manitoba Moose at 7:30 p.m. at the MTS Centre. The road swing ends with two games against Rochester and Binghamton on Nov. 19 and Nov. 21.

- The Marlies currently rank sixth in the North Division with a 4-5-0-2 record for 10 points through 11 games. This week they play two games, both in Winnipeg against the Manitoba Moose on Friday and Saturday night.

- The Marlies won the North Division last season with a record of 50-21-3-6 for 109 points. The 109 points set a Maple Leafs affiliate record.

RBK/AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE

For the week ending November 9, 2008, the Toronto Marlies nominated centre Kris Newbury for consideration as the Rbk/AHL Player of the Week. The Brampton, Ontario native scored a goal in the Toronto Marlies only game this week, a 5-2 loss against the Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday evening. Newbury registered three shots on goal in the game and currently ranks tied for second on the team with four goals.

IN THE BOOTH:

The Marlies and Rogers Cable TV announced their 29 game broadcast schedule, which will comprise of Friday, Saturday and Sunday home dates. The television play-by-play duties will be handled by the voice of the Marlies, John Bartlett, who returns for his fourth season with the organization. Former NHLer and Toronto Maple Leaf, Bob McGill, will join Bartlett in the booth for all 29 games.

The Marlies announced on Friday, October 10 in conjunction with the FAN 590, that all 80 regular season games will be live on the FAN 590. Marlies play-by-play announcer, along with colour commentator, Bob McGill will provide the live action for Marlies fans this season. IN THE COMMUNITY

The Marlies traveled to York University to the Canlan Ice Arena on Monday, November 10 to take part in their third of five community practices this season. The Marlies had a full team practice beginning at 5:15 p.m. and then one lucky minor hockey team had the chance to hit the ice with the coaches and players. The night ended with a full team autograph session. Marlies have registered three, multi-power play goal games so far this season. Kris Newbury leads all Marlie skaters with five power play points (one goal, four assists). Tim Stapleton and Newbury lead the team with five power play assists each.

Penalty Kill: The AHL`s best penalty kill during the 2007-08 season, is a solid 42-for-46 (91.3%) killing penalties on home ice so far this season. Toronto has successfully killed off their previous 26 of 27 penalties. Through 11 games, they rank second in the league with a 90.3% success rate. They've given up only six power play goals in 11 games. The Marlies have only allowed one power play goal in their past four games. Darryl Boyce potted the Marlies first shorthanded tally of the season against Lake Erie on Oct. 12 to knot the game at 3-3 late in the third period. Alex Foster set a Marlies franchise record last season with five shorthanded goals.

Devo Time: Andre Deveaux recorded his first career AHL hat trick last Sunday vs. Houston with two goals coming on the power play. Deveaux currently ranks first on the Marlies with six goals. His four goals on the power play this season ranks eighth (tie) in the AHL. He is first on the team, and 12th in the league with 45 penalty minutes. Deveaux ranks third on the Marlies in points with seven (six goals, one assist). Last season in 66 games, Deveaux scored a career-high, seven goals. He won the Calder Cup as a member of the Chicago Wolves and ranked eighth in the AHL with 232 penalty minutes.

Unveiling the Banner: The Marlies opened up the 2008-09 season by unveiling their North Division championship banner from the year before. The Marlies won their division with a 50-21-3-6 record for 109 points, nine more points then next closest Syracuse (100 points). Toronto has 15 current players that helped them to their title berth on the opening day roster.

Multi-Point Games: Kris Newbury has tallied three, three-point games so far this season. The Marlies all-time leading point scorer, notched three points (one goal, two assists) all on the power play on October 31 at Rochester. He recorded three assists on Wed., Oct. 22 vs. Hamilton and tallied two goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal on Sat., Oct. 18 vs. Hartford. The only other player to record three points in a single game is Andre Deveaux when he netted a hat trick on Oct. 26 vs. Houston. Also this season, Jaime Sifers, Tim Stapleton, Stefano Giliati, Alex Foster, Brent Aubin, Mark Bell, Darryl Boyce, Richard Petiot and Jeremy Williams have all notched two-point games.

Making Their Debut: The Marlies have dressed eight new players through their first 11 games this season. Defencemen Richard Petiot, Andy Schneider, Juha Uotila and Josef Boumedienne; forwards Andre Deveaux, Tim Stapleton and Mark Bell have all seen action in at least one game for the Marlies. Adam Munro made his Marlies debut on Sunday, October 19 in a relief effort, backing up Justin Pogge. Munro made 16 saves in the effort. Newcomer, Tim Stapleton scored the Marlies first goal of the 2008-09 season in the third period and also scored in the shootout on Friday night against the Binghamton Senators.

Behind The Bench: Assistant coach, Doug Gilmour made his AHL coaching debut on Friday, October 10 behind the Marlies bench. The Marlies coaching staff of Greg Gilbert, Joe Paterson and Doug Gilmour has 2,602 career NHL games of experience. Combined the three have accumulated 1,848 NHL points and four Stanley Cup championships. Gilmour played in 392 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, collecting 452 points (131 goals, 321 assists) and represented the Leafs at the 1993 and 1994 NHL All-Star Games.

Reading Report: The Toronto Maple Leafs ECHL affiliate, the Reading Royals currently rank sixth in the American Division with a 3-8-0-0 record for six points. Tyler Doig has collected a team-high seven assists and Dan Rudisuela Opponents This Week:

(Nov. 14 & Nov. 15): The Marlies travel to Winnipeg to take on the Moose on Friday and Saturday night at the MTS Centre. Manitoba ranks third in the North Division with a 9-3-0-0 record for 18 points. They had their nine-game winning streak snapped on Saturday night in Syracuse when they lost 6-3 to the Crunch. The Moose hadn't lost since their season-opening weekend series against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Michel Ouellet paces the way for the Moose with 10 points (four goals, six assists). Michael Grabner was drafted in the first round (14th overall) by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Manitoba captain Mike Keane is a three-time Stanley Cup winner. He won with the Montreal Canadiens in 1993, the Colorado Avalanche in 1996 and the Dallas Stars in 1999. He is a veteran of 1161 NHL games where he recorded 470 points (168 goals, 302 assists). Jason Krog won the Calder Cup last season with the Chicago Wolves and was named the playoff MVP and regular season MVP of the league. He became only the third player in AHL history to lead the league in goals, assists and points. Krog and Andre Deveaux were former teammates last season with the Wolves.

MARLIES HEADLINES:

Leading The Pack: Kris Newbury has potted 12 points over the past nine games for the Marlies. During that stretch, he's scored four goals and added eight assists. Newbury currently ranks first on the team in points, assists, and plus/minus (plus-one) and third in penalty minutes. His five power play assists rank 12th (tie) in the league. Newbury is the Marlies all-time leader in points (151), goals (54), assists (97), penalty minutes (423) and shorthanded goals (tie) with five.

Special Teams:

Power Play: The Toronto Marlies power play clicked four times on five attempts on October 31 against the Rochester Americans. Toronto's power play currently ranks ninth in the AHL with a 19.0% success rate. Five out of the Marlies past eight goals have come during the power play.
