Portland Pirates News Release

The Pirates take their home ice advantage to the Andoscroggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston this Friday, November 14th to play the Albany River Rats at 7:00 p.m. It is the first of two home games they will play at the venue, home of the QMJHL Lewiston MAINEiacs, during the 2008-09 regular season. The Pirates will also face off against the Lowell Devils there on Saturday, March 14th.

There are two players with local ties on the Albany roster. Trevor Gillies, a former Pirates forward, played 101 games with the team during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. He is now in his second season with the River Rats. Albany center Stefan Chaput is very familiar with the Colisée, having played four seasons with the MAINEiacs from 2004-2008. During that time, Chaput recorded 168 points in 196 regular season games and 16 points in 37 playoff appearances.

The teams will hold their Friday morning practice sessions at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée; the Pirates at 10:00 a.m. and the River Rats at 11:15 a.m. Both sessions are free and open to the public. Gates open again at 6:00 p.m., one hour prior to the start of the game.

The Pirates will welcome Auburn Youth Hockey on Friday night for a 50-minute game at 5:00 p.m. Two teams will also play a five-minute game during the first intermission of the Pirates game.
