Chops Move Into 2nd Place With 5-1 Win Over Rampage Tuesday
November 11, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release
During their past two games (both four-goal wins), the Iowa Chops have scored a combined 11 goals on 39 shots. That efficiency led the Chops to a 5-1 win Tuesday night at home over the San Antonio Rampage. With the win, the Chops moved their record to 8-5-0-0 on the season and into sole possession of 2nd place in the AHL's West Division. The Chops scored the only goal of the 1st period thanks to Adrian Veideman's first goal of the season as he got the puck in the high slot and sent a shot underneath Rampage goaltender Al Montoya with help from Petteri Wirtanen and Bobby Ryan. Ryan and Wirtanen pick up their second assists of the night on the next Iowa Chops goal, scored early in the 2nd period by Francis Wathier. The Chops increased the lead to 3-0 with Andrew Ebbett's 7th goal of the year as the center came down the right wing and fired a shot through the legs of Montoya. The 3rd period was more Chops as Drew Miller lit the lamp for his 6th goal of the season with Ebbett and Matt Beleskey, who recorded his first pro point with the assist. Up 4-0, the Chops could not preserve the shutout for goaltender David LeNeveu as Chad Kolarik picked up his own rebound off a blocked shot and beat LeNeveu for the only Rampage goal of the night on 27 shots. LeNeveu was particularly solid between the pipes making several key saves when the game was still in question. He moved his record against his former team (the Rampage) to a perfect 4-0-0-0 in his career. A late empty-net goal from Ryan Donally put the game out of reach for the Rampage.
The Iowa Chops return home on Thursday, November 13th at 7:05pm against the same San Antonio Rampage. Thursday night is Thirsty Thursday and dollar beer night at the Wells Fargo Arena, where beer is just $1 during the entire game. For more information, call 564-8700 or log onto iowachops.com.
