Goaltender Nolan Schaefer (5-5-0) got the start in the Aeros' fourth game in five days and stopped 30 of 31 shots improving his season goals against average (GAA) to 2.36 despite the loss. Daniel Larsson earned his first shutout of the season knocking aside all 16 Aeros' shots, improving his record to 3-2-0.
Houston was held to only three shots in the first period compared to the Griffins 11. Each team was put on a power-play in the period but neither could convert, ending the frame with a 0-0 tie.
Grand Rapids came out strong in the second period taking a 1-0 lead at 2:55 into the frame. Darren Helm tallied his second goal of the season with assists provided by Landon Wilson and Jonathan Ericsson. The Griffins were allowed two man-advantages in the period but failed to convert on either to extend their lead.
The Aeros, still trailing by one goal, were given two power-play chances of their own late in the final period but couldn't take advantage of the opportunities to tie the game. Larsson continued to successfully fight off the Aeros' advances even with Schaefer being pulled in favor of an extra attacker for the final 1:40 of the game.
