In addition, the Panthers have reassigned goaltender Tyler Plante to Dayton from Rochester.
The 24-year-old O'Brien registered two assists and eight PIM in 12 appearances with the Amerks this season. Originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the sixth round (192 overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, the St. John's, Newfoundland, native skated in five NHL games with the Lightning. In 235 career AHL games with Springfield, Portland and Rochester, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound veteran defenseman has notched 76 points (17+59) and 207 PIM.
Shantz, 22, began the season with the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL where he posted a 2.35 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage to go along with one shutout en route to a 4-2-1 record in seven games between the pipes. A native of Burlington, Ontario, Shantz appeared in 14 games last season for Rochester, compiling 334 saves and a 4.07 goals-against average. He was Florida's second-round selection (37th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Plante leaves Rochester after seeing time in six games for the Amerks this season, boasting an 0-5-0 record with a 5.10 goals-against average and a .850 save percentage while making 113 saves. The 21-year-old Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native was a second-round selection (32nd overall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Rochester's three-game weekend kicks off on Friday, November 14th as the defending Calder Cup champion Chicago Wolves make their first and only visit to The Blue Cross Arena this season. The contest will be the first of two scheduled meetings between the two teams this season and will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live. Faceoff for the non-divisional matchup is slated for 7:35 p.m.
Rochester was 0-1-0-1 last season and is 5-3-2 all-time against the Atlanta Thrashers' affiliate. Chicago presently holds a first-place standing in the American Hockey League's West Division with a 9-2-1-1 record and 20 points.
