TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Isotopes collected seven consecutive hits to begin the game, saw a 5-0 lead evaporate, but rallied back for an 8-7 victory Thursday over the Tucson Padres at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium. The victory snapped the Isotopes' three-game losing streak.

Alfredo Amezaga led the way with three hits, including a solo home run in the seventh inning that proved to be the difference in the game.

Scott Van Slyke started the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning. Then Rusty Ryal, Matt Angle, Brian Barden and Matt Wallach all followed with run-scoring singles off Eddie Bonine, who didn't retire a batter and was removed after seven straight hits.

The Padres answered with two runs in the first inning. All total, the first inning lasted 43 minutes. It included a combined 11 hits, seven runs, five strikeouts and six left on base.

Tucson scored a run in the third and two in the fifth to tie the game at 5-5.

Barden's RBI single in the sixth gave the Topes the lead back at 6-5. Ozzie Martinez walked with the bases loaded for a 7-5 lead.

Kelvin De La Cruz pitched three quality innings of relief. He gave up one run, which came in the sixth inning when relief pitcher Daniel Stange tripled and scored on a Rene Rivera single. Rivera was 4-for-4, plus a walk.

Amezaga's home run made it 8-6. In the ninth, the Padres put two runners on base with two outs. Daniel Robertson hit a grounder up the middle and Martinez's errant throw allowed a run to score. Steve Ames was able to get the final out, however, for his third save.

The finale of the four-game series is Friday in Tucson. Blake Johnson starts for the Isotopes and Robbie Erlin is the starting pitcher for the Padres.
